Magnitute-5.0 earthquake rocks Papua

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG -- An earthquaek measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook Sarmi of Papua Province at 3.22 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The BMKG official of Kotabumi, Yuharman, said the epicenter of the quake was located at 2.23 degrees southern latitude and 138.96 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km.

It was about 45 km southeast of Sarmi, 102 km northeast of Membersamoraya, 163 km northeast of Tolikara, 198 km northwest of Jayapura or 3,597 km northeast of Jakarta.

The BMKG office said the earhquaek has not potential to create a tsunami.
