REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MOJOKERTO -- Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa has asked the Islamic boarding schools (Ponpes) in Mojokerto, East Java, to provide assistance for Rohingnya orphans in Aceh.

"We are considering providing temporary care-taking for Rohingya orphans who are now living alone without parents in Aceh," the minister said when visiting the Riyadul Jannah Ponpes in Pacet Village, Mojokerto District, on Saturday night.

She said that there are 231 Rohingya orphans who are now being sheltered in Aceh along other Rohingya refugees.

"There are over 300 Ponpes in Banyuwangi which have expressed readiness to accommodate the Rohingya refugees," the minister added.

Khofifah said the Rohingya refugees are now being sheltered in Aceh and in a number of other regions in Indonesia.

"Those regions have expressed verbally their readiness to accommodate them," she noted.

However, only 13 Ponpes have officially sent letters to the Ministry of Social Affairs regarding their preparedness to assist the refugees and to guarantee their needs.
