REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- In East Nusa Tenggara province, 12 districts and 88 sub-districts share a border with Timor-Leste, Head of East Nusa Tenggara's Border Office Paulus Manehat said here on Wednesday.
"Of the 12 districts, five share land border with the country, while the other seven share sea border with Timor-Leste and Australia," he added.
Manehat stated that the five districts that share land border with Timor-Leste are Belu, Malaka, North Timor Tengah, Tengah Selatan, and Kupang.
The seven districts that share sea border with Timor-Leste and Australia are Rote Ndao, Alor, Sabu Raijua, East Sumba, West Sumba, Sumba Tengah, and Southwest Sumba.
According to Manehat, the establishment of the areas bordering the neighboring countries was based on Presidential Decree Number 179 of 2014 on border spatial planning.
However, there is one point in East Amfoang sub-district in Kupang district that is still in a border dispute with the neighboring countries.
"The disputed point is in Naktuka village. The (border in) other locations are clear," Manehat affirmed.
He hopes that in the near future, delegations of both countries meet to resolve this border issue.
