REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CAIRO -- Indonesian Deputy House Speaker Fahri Hamzah led a parliamentarian delegation to Sudan to boost ties between the parliaments of the two countries.
Members of the delegation included Muhammad Misbakhum of the Golkar faction, Edhi Prabowo of Gerindra, Rofi Munawar of the PKS, two expert staff members, and a parliamentarian secretariat staff member, the Indonesian embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, noted in a press statement, Monday.
The Indonesian legislators are on a four-day visit from May 30 to June 2 at the invitation of the Sudanese parliament.
They attended an inauguration ceremony of the Sudanese parliamentarians, who were elected in the April elections, for the 2015-2020 term.
Indonesia's lawmakers also held meetings with the Sundanese house speaker and members of the Sudanese Parliament's International Relations Commission, particularly the Sudan-Indonesian Parliamentarian Friendship.
They also held a meeting with the Indonesian community in Sudan, which was also attended by Indonesian Ambassador to Sudan and Eritrea.
"The presence of the Indonesian delegation representing Indonesia in the Sudanese Parliamentarian inauguration ceremony will have a positive impact on the efforts to intensify bilateral relations in future," the ambassador emphasized.
The envoy hoped that the two countries' parliaments would boost bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The Indonesian and Sudanese parliaments agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and to coordinate in establishing the Asian-African Parliamentarian Forum.
Sudan is scheduled to host the first meeting of the Asian-African Parliamentarian Forum.
