REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BALI -- Former Indonesian House Speaker Marzuki Ali has called on the Indonesian government to support the China-Southeast Asia People-to-People (P-to-P) Dialogue which is expected to create 'road' to prosperity of the peoples in China and the region.

"The Indonesian government should also give more support to the dialogue like what has been done by the government of China," Marzuki told Antara on the sidelines of the China-Southeast Asia High-Level People-to-People Dialogue here on Sunday evening.

As the capacity of non-government organizations (NGOs) is limited, the government should facilitate NGOs to make them play more important role in their participation to maintain the good relations between China and countries in Southeast Asia and Indonesia in particular, he said.

"Let's see the Chinese government support the dialogue which was attended by its ministers and vice premier," Marzuki said when commenting on the way the Chinese government support the dialogue which was organized by the China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE).

He said that the government plays an important role in giving supports to NGOs among others by providing funds for such a dialogue, helping them invite people from China to visit Indonesia for study so as to improve the understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

"I believe Chinese people who have opportunities to study in Indonesia will become `ambassadors? to Indonesia when they return to China," the former speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) said.

There have been a lot of Indonesian NGOs which have established friendship with those of China and among them are also facilitated by the government, said Marzuki in the hope the relations between the two countries would be better in the future.

The second China-Southeast Asia High-Level People-to-People Dialogue was held in Bali from May 31 to June 1, 2015, and the first one took place in Nanning and Fanchenggang of Guanxi, China, in 2013.
