REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's minister of energy and mineral resources Sudirman Said expressed optimism here on Sunday that by 2020 the country would be 100 percent supplied by electricity.
"I am optimistic when Indonesia reached its 75th anniversary all of its regions will have been supplied by electricity because right now around 84 percent of the country's regions have already enjoyed electricity," he said at a media gathering at his office.
Certainly it is not perfectly 100 percent as some remote areas might still be dark because of their locations which are still inaccessible, he said.
With regard to the problem he said the government would help by providing the regions with lights generated by solar power.
"The lights will be exposed to sun light at day time and at night they may be used for lighting purposes minimally for children to learn at night," he said.
He said the government would encourage investors to invest in the energy sector and expects in the next five years it will reach Rp4000 trillion in value spreading to electricity sector (Rp1.100 trillion), upstream oil and gas sector at Rp1,200 trillion and downstream gas and oil sector Rp600 trillion, coal and mineral mining Rp600 trillion and new ans renewable energy sources at Rp500 trillion.
The minister said to make Indonesia to be 100 percent supplied by electricity capability of the government, state-owned companies and the Independent Power Producer (IPP) must be maintained.
