REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- The Rohingya refugees felt grateful for the permission of the Indonesian government to allow them to stay in Indonesia for a year. However, they requested the President Joko Widodo not to return them to Myanmar.

"If I may ask to President of Indonesia, please do not expel us. Because, if we return, we are going to be killed there," said Ahmadul Hasan (17 years old), a Rohingya refugee with the English language to reporter Republika on Wednesday, May 27.

So, he and all Rohingya citizens comply with any Indonesian government's policy towards the Rohingya refugees. A similar request was also said by Muhammad Amin. More extreme, Amin said he had better be killed in Indonesia rather than to return to Myanmar.

"It's better to be killed here than discharged," said Muhammad Amin in Malay language.

He said the condition of the country was still chaotic and violent. If they discharged, he could be sure that he will be hunted like before. Rohingya tribesmen, he said, was not recognized in Myanmar.

In rudimentary English, Hasan explained, life in Myanmar was not worth living. He and other residents were hunted like animals, Rohingya women raped and their houses burned.

"There were not member of the government from our tribe; the military did not exist (of Rohingya tribe). Babies who were small tossed into the air and burned," he said waving his hands into the air imitating the way they threw the baby.

Everyone thought, no one should be retained in the country. The most rational step to be taken was to flee to save lives.

"Everybody want to move from there and got a job for a better life," he said.
