REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo has asked China to implement the investment projects that have been agreed upon so far posthaste.

"The president has asked for immediate execution of the plans. China must accelerate the investment projects," Minister/State Secretary Pratikno said here on Wednesday after accompanying Jokowi in a meeting with Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu Yandong, who is on a five-day visit to the country.

The visit is a follow up of those by other high-ranking Chinese officials after President Xi Jinping was in Indonesia last month to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference.

Yandong's visit is also aimed at increasing bilateral relations and cooperation between citizens of the two countries in various fields such as education, science and technology, culture, health, sports, media and youth affairs.

Pratikno further noted that during the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Liu Yandong expressed China's wish to expand its cooperation with Indonesia.

"Deputy Prime Minister Yandong wishes to widen the scope of cooperation in the field of education and between forums of rectors. In fact, an agreement has already been made. It only awaits implementation," he remarked.

Following the meeting with President Joko Widodo, Yandong plans to launch an exchange mechanism for citizens of the two countries and give a speech at state University of Indonesia.

She also plans to visit Yogyakarta, Bandung and Bali, where she is scheduled to attend a dialog with high-ranking officials regarding an exchange program for citizens of China and countries of Southeast Asia.

In 2014, each of the two countries recorded 1.53 visits of citizens from the other.
