REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) has not provided the rules that allow Women soldiers (Kowan) to wear hijab. If they want to be TNI soldiers but still wear hijab then they will be placed in Aceh.

Head of information center (Kapuspen) of TNI, Major General M. Fuad Basya said, on this time the women soldiers have not been allowed to wear hijab in uniforms, except in Aceh. Because, the women in the area are requested to wear hijab.

"If they want to wear hijab, later we will transfer their official to Aceh. Only in Aceh, there are kowan TNI who wore hijab because it was a special request from Aceh," Fuad said when contacted by ROL, on Tuesday, May 26.

According to him, the use of hijab in official uniform is not allowed in areas other than Aceh. There are some things that are still to be considered by military to take the policy.

So in fact, he said, members of the military women could wear hijab, but only apply outside the tasks and role as a military officer. When running an obligation or duty they had to let go of their hijab in accordance with the rules which applicable in the military institution.

Previously reported, Commander Gen. TNI Moeldoko hinted that Kowan could wear hijab. Even though many people have supported this policy. It's just that there has been no such discourse that had previously been applied to female police officers in the Indonesian National Police.
