REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -– The first pretrial hearing of Novel Baswedan postponed until Friday, May 29. The postponements due to the party of the respondent, the national police, did not attend the hearing.

"Hearing today is postponed until Friday," said Zuhairi, the single judge during the hearing, in the State Court (PN) of South Jakarta, on Monday, May 25.

After the hearing, Novel’s attorney, Muji Kartika Rahayu said the national police should respect the law by attending the hearing.

Pretrial hearing had a short time. Supposedly, said Muji, since the pretrial petition filed, the police had to prepare the material. "No need to for absent without any explanation," said Muji.

With five days hearing delay, Muji feared, it would disturb pretrial result.

Therefore, Muji asked the judge if the national police are not present again on Friday, the hearing will still be continued.

Muji suspected that it was a scenario to abort pretrial. "Novel's attorney did not know, even the court also did not know (the reason of delay)," Muji adds.

Other legal counsel, Julius Ibrani added the pretrial related to the arrest and the detention of Novel. Chief of National Police, as leader of the national police and Kabareskrim as a leader who directly supervised Novel’s case is a defendant party.
