REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah has encouraged the residents of Jakarta to help ease the burden of those Rohingya refugees who are stranded in the province.

Speaking to the people of Aceh in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) at a gathering in Jakarta on Saturday, the governor said, "I hope all of us can help our unfortunate brothers and sisters from Myanmar and Bangladesh."

Abdulla noted that the people of Aceh in Jabodetabek and other regions in Indonesia should build a sense of solidarity with those Rohingya Muslims stranded in Aceh.

"If you have charity, alms, or other assistance, you can distribute them to our Muslim brothers and sisters, the Rohingya refugees in Aceh," the governor urged.

He noted that the government of Aceh province has conducted a wide range of handling and distributing aid to help the Muslim Rohingya refugees in the province.

"The government of Aceh and the community continue to work hard to provide assistance to the Rohingya refugees," Abdulah affirmed.

Data from the National Agency for Disaster Handling (BNPB) indicated that the number of Muslim Rohingya refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh who are now in Aceh has reached 1,722 people.

All the refugees have been housed in four refugee camps in North Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Langsa city, and East Aceh.
