REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Papua (Bank Papua) sent 46 businesspeople to participate in an entrepreneurship training program at Rumah Perubahan (House of Change).

"The 1,000 indigenous entrepreneurs program has been carried out since 2013, and this one will include the third group. The aim of the program is to demonstrate how Bank Papua could develop potential indigenous Papuan businessmen so that, in the future, they could improve their living standards," Bank Papua's marketing director, Regina Aryesam, said here on Saturday.

Bank Papua sent 40 entrepreneurs to the program in 2013 when the program was first launched, along with 50 in 2014 and 46 entrepreneurs this year.

Those who participated in the training program have been able to share their skills with other members of their communities.

"There they are trained to make their entrepreneurship grow and become Papua?s indigenous businessmen. The 90 participants have, so far, been able to spread their knowledge to 718 people upon arrival from training and make them Bank Papua depositors or debtors," Regina added.

Regina noted that Bank Papua wished to develop the entrepreneurial skills of indigenous Papua businessmen so they could further develop their businesses.

"The most important aspect is entrepreneurship. Actually, they already have it, though it is continuing to develop naturally. We hope someday they would not only become fish sellers, but sell other commodities, as well," Regina said.

All aspects of business are taught to the participants during the May 18-23 training at the Rumah Perubahan, sponsored by well-known businessman Reynald Kasali, including how to manage business and communicate with buyers.

After returning from Jakarta, Bank Papua will continue assisting participants as they seek to carry out what they have been taught in their businesses, Regina said.
