REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- The Japanese government has granted Rp950 million, or US$72,087, to the people of Tamiang District, Aceh Province, to develop a clean water facility.
Japanese Consular to Indonesia Hirofumi Morikawa stated here on Wednesday that the agreement on a clean water development project was signed as part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project on May 12, 2015.
The Indigenous People Community Network or JKMA of Suloh Tamiang has received the funding to develop the facility in Kuala Pusung Kapal Village of Aceh's Tamiang District.
The 2013 program's grants have been given to the people of Tamiang as a symbol of support and concern of the Japanese people for Indonesia.
The grants, which are part of an assistance program, are given directly to the non-governmental organizations.
Through the program, the Japanese government has given Rp44.7 billion, or US$3.4 million, for 40 projects in Aceh Province since 2000.
"We believe that the assistance will help to improve the quality of life of the local people including those in Aceh's Tamiang District," Morikawa noted.
The consular is optimistic that the facility can be optimally operated by the people, so that it can be used to improve the quality of life and health of the people.
"We also hope that cooperation and friendship between Indonesia and Japan can be strengthened," Morikawa added.
