Suspect of Benjina slavery arrested

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- Head of National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) Comissioner General (Komjen) Budi Waseso said, the main perpetrators in cases of alleged slavery in Benjina, Aru Islands, Maluku has been arrested.

 

"We have just arrest a main perpetrator of slavery issue," said Budi, on the field of Bhayangkara Police Headquarters, on Monday, May 11.

However, Budi had not been able to reveal the identity of the detained suspect. The suspect, an Indonesian citizen (WNI), had a role to buy and take to be used as slaves.

Whereas, for the victims, said Budi, mostly foreigners (WNA). In addition to the arrest of the suspect, the police also arrest of five large ships.

"But it's impossible for us to pull the ships here, but obviously we already took the images of the five ships," he added.
