Revision of Pilkada laws for democratic election

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), Fadli Zon said the limited revision of the Political Parties and the Local Election Law (UU Pilkada) was made in order to create democratic local elections (Pilkada).

"For the sake of democracy, not for the sake of the party who are in conflict," he said at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Wednesday, May 6.

Fadli continued, DPR sought the entire political party could participate on Pilkada with the aim of creating an environment of ideal democracy. He said the revision of the law is a most appropriate solution in creating democracy.

He stated that all members of Parliament and all political parties were also agreed that there was a solution. According to the Gerindra politician, revision of this law is a breakthrough and looks quite strange because this new phenomenon, and the first since the reform era.

"These abnormal conditions and an artificial," he said.

Obscurity election’s participant until today, he continued, is the negative impact of the policy by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

But unfortunately, General Election Commission (KPU) does not see the proposal of the DPR as an effective solution. "Therefore, if the elections in 2015 did not run smoothly, then that is KPU’s mistake," he said.
