REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian police officially installed Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as the national deputy police chief here on Wednesday (22/4).
"We inform the public that, Thank God, we now have a national deputy police chief. Please give your blessings, so that Pak (Mr) Badrodin and Pak Budi could work well to improve the police's performance and make the police more efficient," National Police spokesman Inspector General Anton Charliyan stated.
The inauguration was held at the Rupatama Hall at the National Police headquarters, but no media personnel were allowed to attend it.
"Nothing is hidden. Please do not have any suspicion and do not blow it out of proportion as though something is wrong. What is important is that we have informed about the national deputy police chief's inauguration this afternoon," he noted.
Anton said the ceremony was a brief and simple event, and National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti immediately left the venue in connection with the Asia-Africa Conference event.
"Not all officials at the National Police Headquarters attended it because the time was short, and the room was small," he pointed out.
President Joko Widodo had cancelled Budi Gunawan's candidacy as national police chief after he was named a corruption suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The court however later ruled that his naming as a suspect by the KPK was illegitimate.
