REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government will raise the monthly performance-based allowances for soldiers by 56-60 percent as part of an effort to improve their welfare, stated President Joko Widodo.

"This morning, during a telephonic conversation, I told the state administrative reforms minister and the finance minister to increase the performance-based allowances for soldiers by 56-60 percent. Early next month, they will receive the allowances," the president stated at the National Defense Forces (TNI) Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Thursday.

If the political and security stability is conducive and development in five years is good, the economic growth will improve accordingly, he noted.

"If the Indonesian economic growth is good, the TNI budget may double. The military's main armament systems and soldiers' welfare can be increased too," he pointed out.

The president believes that if security issues, illegal fishing, illegal logging, and so on can be dealt with, the economy will grow well.
