REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Communication and Information Technology Ministry on Wednesday released an Indonesia-North Korea joint postage stamp featuring first President Soekarno and North Korean leader Kim Il Sung along with the moon and Kimilsungia orchid.
Attended by the ministry's top officials and North Korean Ambassador in Jakarta Ri Jong Ryul, the launch marked the 50th anniversary of the naming of the Kimilsungia orchid flower by President Soekarno to honor Kim Il Sung's visit to Indonesia.
Indonesia's first president Soekarno named the violet orchid "Kimilsungia" as an honor and a token of friendship between Indonesia and North Korea at a state banquet hosted for Kim Il Sung and his entourage 50 years ago.
At present, North Korea holds an annual event called the Kimilsungia orchid flower festival.
According to the ministry's expert staff, Woro Widiastuti, who represented Minister Rudiantara, the launch of the joint postage stamp would strengthen bilateral ties and friendship between Jakarta and Pyongyang.
North Korean Ambassador Ri Jong Ryul also echoed Widiastuti's views saying that the foundation of bilateral relations built by the founding fathers of Indonesia and North Korea would become more solid.
The launch of this joint postage stamp would also boost cooperation between the two countries in various sectors. He pointed out that the legacy of history that the two leaders had left would be carried forward from generation to generation.
