REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SANUR -- The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), which won the general elections last year, has said it will ensure that natural resources in the country are developed for the prosperity of the people.

"The PDIP will seek to revise the laws on coal, mineral resources, oil and gas to ensure that they have a 'red-white' (nationalist) spirit, with the aim to bring national energy management in line with the principles of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution," the newly-reelected PDIP General Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri stated while closing the party's congress here on Saturday.

The former president and daughter of late first president Soekarno noted that in line with the constitutional mandate, the state must control land, water and natural resources underground to realize energy sovereignty to ensure the prosperity of the people.

The country, she added, was responsible for providing decent jobs to its citizens and for creating decent jobs for them.

The PDIP will also encourage the framing of various laws to create decent conditions for workers, including government employees, in all sectors at home and abroad, she affirmed.
