REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SANUR -- President Joko Widodo expressed his appreciation for a political message from Megawati Soekarnoputri, the general chairperson of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), at the opening of the party's 4th congress here Thursday (9/4).
"Mme Megawati's speech was very good," he told newsmen who asked his comment on Megawati's speech.
The event was also attended by Vice-President Jusuf Kalla and a number of cabinet ministers from the party.
Also seen at the event were general chairman of the National Mandate Party and chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan, MPR deputy chairman Oesman Sapta Odang, general chairman of the National Democrat Party Surya Paloh, general chairman of the Nation Awakening Party Muhaimin Iskandar, general chairman of the Justice and Unity Party Soetiyono, and general chairman of the United Development Party Muhammad Romahurmuzzy.
President Jokowi, as he is also called, stated that he heard Megawati's full speech.
"A leader must serve the people. That should be the ultimate goal and nothing else," he added.
Asked about his relation with the PDIP that had nominated him as a presidential candidate and other parties that had supported his presidential bid, Jokowi said it had been good.
He remarked that communication with parties happened every day so there had been no problem.
"Internal communication has also been going well," he added.
After attending the opening event, Jokowi, who is also a PDIP cadre, left for West Nusa Tenggara for a working visit.
