REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- General Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri has cautioned President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla regarding the presence of "stowaways" in the government.

"The stowaways can create ripples in the government and are keen to control it politically and economically," Megawati stated while delivering a political speech at the opening of the fourth congress of the PDIP at Hotel Inna Grand Bali Beach, Sanur, Bali, on Thursday.

Megawati noted that the PDIP had been struggling and facing difficult challenges to win over the people's trust in the past decade and has now become the ruling party.

However, the last legislative and presidential elections revealed that a lot of homework still needs to be done.

"I am afraid that there are parties who did not take part in the struggle for the presidential election but are suddenly present and become stowaways in the government," Megawati pointed out.

According to the PDIP leader, the stowaways at the beginning affirmed that they were committed to developing the nation; however, they later intend to control the government. This is the dark side of power that all should watch out for.

The Indonesian fifth president cited the example of work contracts in the oil and gas sector. The government should be extra alert while issuing work contracts related to oil and gas and other natural resources.

"The case is also the same as the state-owned companies (BUMN). They should be reinforced and must become the main pillars of independent political policies," she asserted.

She stated that the stowaways were the mainstay of opportunist groups, who in the past, did not cooperate with political parties that supported common presidential and vice presidential candidates.

The stowaways are waiting for the opportune time to take over from behind, she noted.

On the occasion, Megawati also reminded President Joko Widodo to adhere to the constitution.

"Fulfill campaign promises because it is a sacred bond with the people," Megawati emphasized.

With regard to its constitutional duties, Megawati said that the PDIP was playing its part by reminding the national leaders about their duty to protect the country and its people.

Protecting the nation includes preventing campaigns by terror networks that have been waging war against humanity, Megawati noted.

"Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a serious problem, and it needs to be addressed," she affirmed.

According to Megawati, ISIS has been acting on behalf of the state and has even recruited Indonesian citizens.
