REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Chinese businessmen have shown their interest in building an accumulator-factory in the Batam Free Trade Zone and Free Port in Riau Islands province, a mayor said.
"The Chinese businessmen came yesterday. They were interested to invest in accumulators making," Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan said here on Monday.
Some businessmen from China, along with representatives of Guang Xi provincial government came to Batam in the last weekend in an effort to explore business opportunity in Batam industrial city.
"They (Chinese investors) have much money," the mayor pointed out.
The Batam mayor further claimed that in the last weekend he received many visitors as would-be foreign investors to cooperate in business development in the Batam city.
Dahlan also said that Batam is an appropriate location for the development of enterprises with many incentives for the industry through the implementation of the Free Trade Zone and Free Port.
The city administration is ready to facilitate the business to invest in Batam which is close to Singapore.
In the meantime, Batam government public relations officer Ardiwinata explained that the Chinese entrepreneurs are interested in battery recycling industry.
In 2015, Batam has set investment target amounting US$500 million or equal to Rp6.3 trillion, or higher than the last year's investment target of around US$400 million, Ardiwinata added.
