REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, RIYADH -- Saudi Arabia will build a maritime military base near its borders with Yemen for security concerns, Elaf online newspaper reported on Monday.
The Saudi minister of defense, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, said the military zone will be located in the southern area of the country, close to the borders with Yemen.
He also ordered the immediate construction of the base and additional housing units to accommodate more forces.
The announcement was made a few days after Yemen's Houthi fighters, who have taken control over the Yemeni capital Sanaa, held military exercises near Saudi borders.
Before the disturbance in Yemen began early this year, Saudi Arabia had been tightening security near the borders to prevent trafficking and al-Qaeda terrorist operations.
Last Friday, three bombings in Sanaa and the Houthi stronghold of Saada province killed at 137 people. The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
