REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice president Jusuf Kalla said Jakarta needs to build more flats to reduce traffic congestion caused by inflows of people from rural regions to work in the capital city.
"More flats must be built so that people will not spread in many areas," he said.
He admitted that traffic congestion and population density are a complex problem so that adequate transportation facilities need to be made available for the public.
"This is a complex problem but the most important thing is public transportation infrastructure. Now we are just developing a mass rapid transit facility. Others will follow," he added.
The vice president said to find solutions of the city's problems Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama need to coordinate with him.
"We used to have UKP4 to give an advice to the Jakarta administration. Later after the Jakarta administration presents its report on the problems we can discuss it together," he said.
