REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya city government is preparing 50 tons of rice to launch cheap rice operations in several parts of the city to curb the increasing rice price.

"This time we prepare larger quantities of rice. Yesterday we prepared 1 ton and today we increased it to 5 tons," head of the Surabaya city trade and industry office Widodo Suryantoro said here on Monday (9/3).

To curb the current surge in rice price, the office has launched cheap rice operations 10 times in the past couple of weeks. The office is planning to launch another 10 cheap rice operations in several areas in the city.

The second round of cheap rice operations which will start on Wednesday (March 11) will target 10 areas.
