REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Five commissioners of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) met with the leadership of the Supreme Court here on Friday to discuss efforts to eradicate corruption.

"The KPK commissioners only paid a courtesy call on the Supreme Court leadership. We realize that the Supreme Court is the highest institute that serves justice, but it does not have the authority to give directives on legal and technical matters that have, so far, been under the spotlight," acting KPK leader Indriyanto Seno Adji said in a short text message sent to Antara on Friday.

Head of the Legal Affairs and Public Relations Bureau of the Supreme Court Ridwan Mansyur stated that the five KPK commissioners met with Supreme Court Chairman Hatta Ali to discuss a wide range of issues, including a judicial review of cases.

"They discussed law enforcement, particularly corruption eradication. They also deliberated over (a judicial review of cases), but the discussion was not related to a specific case. Only general issues were discussed," he revealed.

A spokesman for the Supreme Court, Suhadi, pointed out that convicts or their beneficiaries could file a request for a judicial review of their case.

The visit to the Supreme Court came after the KPK delegated the case of Commissioner General Budi Gunawan to the Attorney General's Office as the sole judge who dealt with the pretrial suit, Sarpin Rizaldi, ruled on February 16 that the order to investigate Gunawan as a suspect in a corruption case was illegitimate.

The Supreme Court leadership that met the KPK commissioners included Supreme Court Chairman Hatta Ali, Chairman of the Civil Chamber M. A. Artidjo Alkostar, judges of the Civil Chamber Jafni Jamal and Imam Subekhi, and representatives of the religious chamber Professor Abdul Manan, Pengagasan Timur Manurung, and Pembunaan Taldir Rachmdi.
