REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Numerous electric train services (KRL) in Jakarta were disrupted on Monday, February 9, following continuous rainfall overnight. In a press statement released on Monday, state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) offered an apology to passengers for the disruption, as several railway tracks in the capital city were flooded.

Electric trains that ply between Bogor/Depok and Jakarta Kota, and between Bogor/Depok and Jatinegara via Sudirman and Tanah Abang stations stopped at Manggarai Station in South Jakarta. Due to the floods, electric trains that serve the Bekasi-Jakarta Kota route also stopped at Manggarai Station.

In addition, floodwaters at Tanah Abang Station forced electric train services from Maja, Parung Panjang and Serpong stations to stop at Palmerah Station. Railway tracks between Kampung Bandan and Kemayoran were also inundated.

Floods triggered by incessant rains since Sunday inundated Jakarta Kota Station, Tanah Abang Station, and several sections along the Sudirman-Tanah Abang line. A number of areas in the capital were also flooded.

"The municipalities of central, north and west Jakarta have been hit the worst by the floods," spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, stated.

Among the places affected by the floods in Central Jakarta were the Tanah Abang Railway Station, Jati Baru, and Petamburan; Jati Pinggir, JPO antara Roxy, and Latumenten were inundated in West Jakarta; and in North Jakarta, Teluk Gong, Kapuk, and Muara Angke.

Heavy rainfall, which began Sunday evening and continued till Monday morning, inundated 49 locations across Jakarta, spokesman for the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), Bambang Suryaputra, said.
