REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- Hundreds of hectares of rice fields were flooded in Pakuhaji Sub-district, Tangerang District, Banten Province, following incessant heavy rains over the past two days.

Downpours triggered Apur and Ciasin rivers to overflow their banks, Head of Pakuhaji Sub-district Nurhalim stated here on Thursday.

Local farmers were concerned that the flooding could cause their rice harvest to fail, Nurhalim added.

Laksana and Sukawali are among the villages affected by the floods in Pakuhaji district.

Floodwaters reaching a height of up to 60 centimeters also inundated several houses.

Head of the Tangerang Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Teteng Jumara stated that his office has made several preparations to anticipate flooding in the eight flood-prone sub-districts.

The eight sub-districts are Tigaraksa, Kresek, Pakuhaji, Cikupa, Balaraja, Gunung Kaler, Kelapa Dua, and Pasar Kemis.

Floods are usually triggered by the Cimanceuri, Cidurian, Cirarap, and Cisadane rivers breaching their banks.

Gelam Jaya (Pasar Kemis), Pasir Ampo (Kresek), Sukawali (Pakuhaji), and Bencongan (Kelapa Dua) are the villages that are susceptible to flooding.

Several provinces are currently experiencing flooding and landslides, with the rainy season reaching its peak between January and February.
