REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo has expressed hope that with the passage of Law No.1/2015, simultaneous local elections will be prepared and implemented well.
"The President hopes that as the law has been endorsed, budgeting and development in regions will not be disturbed (due to elections) as well as its accountability report," Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said after attending a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace here on Wednesday.
The Home Affairs Ministry and the Law and Human Rights Ministry will coordinate with the General Election Commission and the House for the smooth implementation of simultaneous local elections in 204 electoral regions in Indonesia.
However, if the Law is to be revised, it will need a presidential mandate, Kumolo added.
The government is still discussing matters related to the 2015 local elections such as their schedule and electoral threshold.
As proposed by the Regional Election Commission, the Ministry of Finance has agreed to increase the budget for local elections, including the second round elections.
The government hopes to carry out any revision of the Law before the House session ends.
