REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- Four Indonesian students from the Medical Faculty of Andalas University in Padang, West Sumatra, are participating in the Sirriraj International Microbiology, Parasitology and Immunology Competition (SIMPIC) held in Thailand.

The four students named Alan Mustaqim, Endah Setyaningsih, Longmai Bunga Persik, and Rori Syahnidep have departed for Thailand on January 30, the university's spokesperson, Eriyanty, stated here on Wednesday.

The students are participating in varied fields such as microbiology, parasitology, and immunology.

"Universities in the Asia-Pacific region are participating in the competition," Eriyanty noted.

Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, China, and Australia are sending their teams to participate in the competition.

The competition gauges the students' depth of knowledge and understanding in the fields of microbiology, parasitology, and immunology.

"Last year, the Indonesian team won the first position," Eriyanty stated, adding that the students were from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.

SIMPIC is the biggest medical competition organized in the Asia-Pacific region.
