REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Sea Security Agency (Bakamla) will add 30 units of sea patrol vessels to boost its power. The agency guarantees that the vessels are made in Indonesia.

"We plan to procure more vessels in the size of 48 meters, 80 meters and 110 meters," Deputy of Operation and Exercise of Bakamla, Wuspo Lukito, said on Monday, February 2.

Bakamla only has three vessels. However, several stakeholders will give their vessels to the agency. For instance, Indonesan Navy will grant 10 units to the agency. Lukito said that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Police and Directorate General of Customs would also help the agency.

Bakamla plans to conduct nine operations coded Operasi Nusantara in 2015. It will involve other agencies patrolling in Indonesian waters. "It will be more efficient," he said.

Bakamla will also activate its radar to find suspicious ships. The agency will report any suspicious vessels to the nearest commander.

The agency recently found suspicious vessel in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The vessel was carrying 18 tonnes of raw palm oil. Bakamla immediately secured 15 crews of the vessel and handed them to water police in Balikpapan.
