REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Presidium of the Association of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) Prof Nanat Fatah Natsir urges President Joko Widodo to immediately take decision on the recommendation of the Team of Nine he formed to help sort out the problem between police and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"The president should not delay and lose the momentum. The president should consult with the Parliament to review the sole candidate for police chief," Prof Nanat Fatah Natsir said here on Thursday.

He said the Team of Nine has given most reasonable set of recommendation to the president to solve the conflict, adding he should not disappoint the Team he formed himself.

The Team recommended not to install Comr.Gen Budi Gunawan who was named corruption suspect by KPK.

"I support the recommendations of the Team of Nine. The president should reaffirm his commitment to eradicate corruption and uphold the law," he said.

The independent Team made up of nine experts in law, former chief of police and KPK, and other respected leaders has submitted a five point recommendation to the president.

First, the President should be consistent in the principle that any law enforcement official in the status of suspect should resign to protect the reputation of the law enforcement agencies both police and KPK.

Second, the president should not install police chief candidate in the status of suspect.

Third , the president should stop all alleged attempts of criminalization of officials of law enforcement agencies both police and KPK and the people in general.

Fourth, the president should passed order to police and KPK to abide by their respective ethical codes believed to have been committed by police and KPK officials.

Fifth, the president should reaffirm his commitment to eradication of corruption and law enforcement to meet the public expectation.

The Team of Nine include Syafii Maarif, Jimly Asshiddiqie, Oegroseno, Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas, Bambang Widodo Umar, Hikmahanto Juwana, Imam Prasodjo and Sutanto.

Chairman of the team Syarfii Maarif said the initiative to pick Budi Gunawan as the police chief candidate did not come from Jokowi.

Mararif, however, stopped short of giving a name saying "you know it . It is no secret."

Budi Gunawan was named a suspect by KPK on charge of involvement in a number of suspicious transactions.
