REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA PEMBUANG -- The Seruyan district in Central Kalimantan Province will hold a cultural festival named "Gawi Hatantiring" in March.

"The festival will have the participation of 10 sub-districts in Seruyan district," Seruyan Manpower, Transmigration and Tourism Agency Head Megantoro stated here on Monday (26/1).

He said the Seruyan Hilir and East Seruyan Hilir sub-districts had participated in the previous festival.

"Therefore, we expect that the ten sub-districts can send their representatives to participate in the event," he remarked.

The festival will hold six different traditional contests: Manyumpit, Balogo, Bagasing, Manggalau, Manetek Kayu, and Lawang Sekepeng with traditional dance.

The event named "Gawi Hatantiring" is derived from the nickname of Seruyan district, which is Bumi Gawi Hatantiring, means working together or "gotong royong" spirit.

"We hope the event can foster a spirit of mutual assistance to improve this district and can also develop a sense of love for the local culture" Megantoro remarked.

In the meantime, the inclusion of all sub-districts in Seruyan's Gawi Hatantiring event is being welcomed by the students who admire the traditional hereditary art of Dayak, especially the culture of the upstream areas.

"We only learn dance from the teachers in the school. There has never been a contest, so with the cultural festival, we can showcase it," noted Santi, a student from the SMA Trans Sukamandang High School.
