REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, Jakarta -- The government has encouraged investors to develop Sorong port in Sorong district, West Papua, into an industrial zone in the eastern part of Indonesia, stated a minister.
"In line with the marine toll road development program launched by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Sorong port's development has started, and the decision to make Sorong district a special industrial zone has been included in the National Medium-Term Development Plan 2015 (RJPMN 2015)," Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Environment Indroyono Susilo remarked here on Wednesday.
Speaking at a seminar on "Kuala Tanjung Port Development: Port of Rotterdam International and Pelindo I," Minister Susilo said the feasibility study on the development of Sorong port has been completed and will be made available to both domestic and foreign investors to develop the port.
The minister revealed that the investors have been encouraged to transform Sorong into a special industrial zone in the eastern part of Indonesia by developing a power plant, dock, passenger port, container terminal, cement factory, and supporting infrastructure for tourism.
He added that with the development of supporting infrastructure, all sectors related to the maritime toll road development could function as expected.
