REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice-President Jusuf Kalla has said there has not been any rift between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police (Polri) over the nomination of Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as Police Chief.
"No, there is no rift. Even many KPK officials are of the members of the National Police," the Vice-President told newsmen at his office here on Thursday (15/1).
He said the dynamic between the KPK and Polri over the nomination of Gunawan as Police Chief should not be misconstrued as conflict, but it must be viewed from the positive side.
"The government in this case does not seek popularity but will like to see how this country develops and prospers," the Vice-President emphasized.
Kalla noted that the government has still been studying the legal case that befell Budi Gunawan, although he has passed the fit-and-proper test by the House of Representatives.
"Although Gunawan has passed the fit-and-proper test, the process of his nomination will continue until the government studies his legal case," Kalla remarked.
The Vice-President noted that although the House of Representatives' Commission-III has approved Budi Gunawan as the Police Chief in its plenary session on Thursday, the President has yet to receive any letter from the House.
"The government has not received a letter from the House about the approval. Even if we receive it, we will have to review it, after all," the Vice-President stated.
