REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALANGKA RAYA -- The Indonesian government plans to build six railway lines in Central Kalimantan province under the medium-term national development plan for the 2015 to 2019 period.

The six railway lines are part of the government's plan to build 3,200 kilometers of railway tracks in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua, Director of Traffic and Railway Transport of the Transport Ministry Hanggoro Budi Wiryawan said here on Wednesday (14/1).

"We will build six railway lines in Central Kalimantan, for which the construction plan is being drafted. The project is part of the medium-term national development plan for 2015-2019," he stated.

These six railway lines include the stretches of Kudangan-Nanga Bulik-Kumai, Puruk Cahu-Kuala Kurun-Rabambang-Samba-Sampit, Kuala Pembuang-Teluk Sigintung, and Tumbang Samba-Rantau Pulut-Nanga Bulik.

The others are Kuala Kurun-Rabambang-Palangka Raya-Pulang Pisau- Batanjung-Kapuas, Puruk Cahu-Bangkuang/Mangkatip-Batanjung, and Banjarmasin-Palangka Raya.

"The projects are incorporated into the medium-term national development plan for 2015-2019. We hope we can begin them soon," he remarked.

The construction of railway tracks is aimed at distributing development evenly to enable the public to reap greater benefits, Wiryawan noted.

He added that the plan to develop the railway lines had been ideated in 2008.

"Under a presidential instruction, the construction of 3,200 kilometers of railway tracks must use state budget funds. However, the construction of 425 kilometers of the proposed railway tracks will involve the private sector and must be done," he stressed.
