REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has barred Muhammad Herviano Widyatama, the son of national police chief candidate Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, from leaving the country in connection with his father's case.

"The KPK has sent a letter to bar several people from going abroad," Deputy Chief of the KPK Bambang Widjojanto said here on Wednesday (14/1).

So far, four people have been barred from traveling abroad---Budi Gunawan, his son Muhammad Herviano Widyatama, police member Lie, and a teacher at the Police Leadership School, Syahtria Sitepu, Widjojanto revealed.

The ban comes into effect today (January 14) and will be valid for six months to ensure that they are available when summoned by the anti-graft body.

On July 16, 2005, when Widyatama was still 19 years old, Rp57 billion was transferred to his account from Pacific Blue International Limited in the form of U. S. dollars worth US$5.9 million. Some of the funds were later transferred to Gunawan's account.

Earlier, Widjojanto noted that one of the suspicious transactions that involved Gunawan was related to his son's account.

"Details of the accounts, including his son's, are all on record, but I will not comment on them. Details of where the accounts are, or how much is in them, or whom they belong to cannot be revealed," he explained on Tuesday.

The Indonesia Corruption Watch had once reported the suspicious accounts belonging to Gunawan and his son to the Task Force on Court Mafia Eradication Unit, as well as to the KPK in 2013.

The KPK deputy chief also pointed out that the accounts were related to the positions Gunawan held in the police force---when he was the head of the career development bureau and when he was the deputy for human resources between 2003 and 2006, among others.

On Tuesday, the KPK named 56-year-old Budi Gunawan as a suspect in an alleged case of corruption ahead of a test to be held by the parliament to approve his candidacy for the post of the national police chief.
