REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) staged the Law and Order Enforcement Operation 2015 on Tuesday as part of its efforts to reduce and prevent violations and illegal acts by its members.

"This annual activity is aimed at increasing the discipline of soldiers. Unless law enforcement is carried out, we cannot expect soldiers' discipline to increase. Supervision is needed, and action must be taken against soldiers committing violations," TNI Commander General Moeldoko remarked while leading a ceremony to mark the opening of the operation at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

He emphasized that communication between superiors and juniors must be increased to create harmonious relations in order to prevent cases of violation.

"Please tell other soldiers to also avoid exhibiting primitive behavior. There must no longer be cases of disrespectful actions. We must also build harmonious relations with the members of police, so that no shameful acts will be committed by the TNI and police personnel. The reputation of these respected institutions must not be tarnished by primitive actions," he affirmed.

The operation will be carried out individually and jointly. It will involve the army, navy, air force, and military police forces and will also be assisted by police provosts.

This year's operation will involve 1,052 personnel comprising 61 officials from the TNI Headquarters, 271 from the army, 266 from the navy, 266 from the air force, and 188 from the police force.

The operation aims to improve discipline among soldiers in a bid to nurture professionalism and patriotism, which will be revered by the people.

It is also being organized to prevent soldiers from getting involved in narcotic drugs and other illegal activities and also to avoid cases of misunderstanding between the TNI, the police, and the society.

According to data, a total of 224 disciplinary and 141 non-disciplinary cases were recorded during the operation from January to September in 2013 in addition to 553 traffic rule violations and 252 traffic incidents involving TNI members.

A total of 2,347 cases were recorded during the law enforcement operation and 1,087 of them had been settled.
