REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Research ship Baruna Jaya I has discovered the location of the black box of AirAsia flight QZ8501 that crashed in the Karimata Strait waters on December 28, 2014.

Three ships - Baruna Jaya, Java Interior and GeoSurvey - detected signals of the black box not far away from where the tail of the ill-fated aircraft was found.

The signals were later found to be located less than one kilometer east of the location where the tail of the aircraft was found, according to the National Search and Rescue Agency's (Basarnas) operational director Commodore SB Supriyadi.

The tail of the aircraft meanwhile has been linted and would be taken by Crest Onyx to Kumai port this afternoon.

The joint search and rescue team has also discovered new debris of the aircraft that would also be taken to the Panglima Utar Kumai by Trisula ship.
