Sheikh Al Sabah hopes RI's success to host 2018 Asian Games

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The visiting president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah has expressed hope that Indonesia will be successful to host the 2018 Asian Games.

"Indonesia has held a number of games of multi-sports such as the 1962 Asian Games, SEA Games and The Asian Beach Games ... the wonderful memories will not happen without the supports of the leaders and the citizens," the OCA president said at a dinner here on Tuesday (6/1).

The dinner event was among others attended by the Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Imam Nahrawi and Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee Rita Subowo and the South Sumatra's governor Alex Noordin.

Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah also expressed optimism that Indonesia can host the Asian Games in 2018 safely and smoothly.

In the meantime, Imam Nahrawi said that Indonesia is ready to host the biggest sporting event in Asia following the Asian Games in 1962.

During his two-day visit (Jan 6-7), Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah was accompanied by the OCA Secretary General Raja Randhir Singh from India.

Indonesia held the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang on November 11 until 22, 2011. In addition, the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games took place in 2013 in Jakabaring, Palembang, South Sumatra.
