President seeks common viewpoint on drug eradication

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wants all parties to have a common viewpoint on efforts to eradicate drugs, as Indonesia is now in a state of emergency with regard to drug abuse.

"I call on all parties to have the same opinion with regard to the efforts to eradicate drugs in Indonesia," the president stated while opening a limited meeting at the presidential office here on Wednesday.

Present at the limited meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, Military Chief General Moeldoko, National Police Chief General Sutarman, and State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Chief Marciano Norman, among several others.

During the meeting, President Jokowi gave Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno an opportunity to explain issues related to drug abuse in the country.

The meeting was held to discuss drug-related issues and also to review preparations to secure the Christmas and New Year 2015 celebrations.
