REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANJARNEGARA -- Certain areas of Banjarnegara district in Central Java province are prone to repeated landslides because the soil there has started eroding, a spokesman for the National Search and Rescue Agency said.

Head of the agency, Vice Marshal F. H. Bambang Sulstyio, stated here on Monday (15/12) that eroded soil was found on the ground of the cliffs that people built their houses on top of or below.

The district government needs to find a solution to this problem to minimize the impacts of any unexpected natural disaster in the areas of Banjarnegara district, he added.

Jemblung hamlet of Sampang village in Karangkobar sub-district of Banjarnegara district was hit by a landslide that buried more than 100 people on Friday.

According to the Banjarnegara district's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the bodies of 50 victims had been discovered so far. While 45 of them had been identified, the other five remain unidentified.

Until Monday, 58 victims were still buried, the BPBD noted.
