REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LEBAK -- Merah Putih cement factory, which belongs to PT Cemindo Gemilang, will be operational by 2016, a spokesman said. The factory is under construction on a 500-hectare plot of land in the Banten provincial district of Lebak.

"We will optimize cement milling in 2015, so it (the factory) will be operational by 2016," Corporate Social Responsibility spokesman of PT Cemindo Gemilang, Aos Gumilar, stated in Rangkasbitung on Monday.

According to him, the Merah Putih cement factory with an investment of 6 trillion IDR will boost regional revenue and employment absorption. Currently, the Merah Putih cement factory has absorbed some 1,200 workers, Gumilar pointed out, adding that most of the workers were local people.

He further noted that the selling price of Merah Putih Cement ranged from 40,000 IDR to 60,000 IDR per sack and provided stiff competition to other cement brands. Indonesia's largest cement production center, with the capacity to produce 10,000 tons of clinker per day, has the target of manufacture 3.2 million tons of the commodity per year.

"We believe that cement production can boost the economy of the local people," the spokesman affirmed.

Moreover, members of the Lebak district community expressed hope that the cement factory will also have positive impacts with regard to environmental preservation.
