REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIRUT -- The United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Monday the number of Syrian children in schooling age in Lebanon has been 470,000, highlighting the educational problem they are facing.

The UNHCR weekly report said that the number of Syrian displaced children to enroll in the primary education is 386,000, while the number of Lebanese children at this stage of education is 275,000 only.

The report pointed out the difficulties that the educational sector in Lebanon is facing and the problems to enroll the Syrian students in the Lebanese public schools.

The report said that "more than 50 percent of the Syrian displaced children aging between 5 to 17 years are not receiving proper education and the youth are the most affected for not enrolling in schools."

The Lebanese Ministry of Education launched last April a three- year plan with an approximate cost of 600 million dollars, aiming at providing education and school enrollment for about 165,000 Syrian displaced children, and providing school for 400,000 Syrian displaced children by the year 2016.

According to the UNHCR, Lebanon hosts around 1,200,000 Syrian displaced children living in various encampment facilities all over the country.
