REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government will standardize fish product in Indonesia to meet Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Ministry of Maritime and Fishery Affairs considers that standardizing can boost the quality's products and rise their potential to compete in ASEAN Economic Community.

"We urge the business to apply SNI in their products. It will guarantee our market and give advantage to Indonesia," Director General of Fisheries Products Processing and Marketing at the Ministry Saut Hutagalung said on Friday, November 28.

The ministry has told the processing business the importance of standard in a product. They also explain the economic advantage of applying SNI.

Hutagalung said SNI will be applied to every fishery product produced by industries and small medium enterprises. SNI Technical Committee is still making a list of 160 products, in which 99 units of them are fishery products. Among others are fishball, frozen fish, sashimi grade tuna, frozen shrimp, frozen peeled shrimp, frozen eel, and frozen tuna loin.
