REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- State Vocational High School 10 (SMKN 10) in Teluknaga sub-district, Tangerang regency, Banten, inaugurated an aircraft engineering major course intended to employ graduates at the local airport.

The graduates passing out of SMKN 10 are expected to be employed at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport located near the school, Head of SMKN 10 Agum Aji Gumelar stated here on Tuesday (25/11).

"We do not want the local youth to only become onlookers but they must also participate and work at Indonesia's largest airport," he stated.

He hoped that the students graduating from SMKN 10 could work as stewardesses, pilots, and aircraft technicians.

According to reports from local headmen, several graduates from local schools have worked as janitors or parking attendants.

The airport management cannot provide jobs to graduates as they do not have the required skills to work in the aviation sector.

Although the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is located directly on the border with Tangerang regency, most of the local graduates work as janitors or waiters.

Due to this reason, SMKN 10 Tangerang has started an aircraft engineering major program to provide better employment opportunities to the graduates, stated Tangerang Regent and Head of Education Agency Ahmed Zaki Iskandar.

Gumelar noted that the students have shown keen interest in the field of aircraft engineering since some of the teachers work as technicians at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
