REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia'a Vice President Jusuf Kalla demands Europe to be fair on trade. He thinks that Europe has been discriminating Indonesian products, especially crude palm oil (CPO) and tuna.

"We have to support fair and mutually beneficial trade," Kalla said on Wednesday, November 19. He added that every country is linked. Economic growth in Europe can affect Asia and vice versa.

European Union is second largest export destination after Japan. However, several Indonesian export products, such as CPO and tuna, suffer tariff and nontariff barriers. Indonesian CPO even faces rampant black campaign on deforestation and health issues.

Indonesia is the biggest exporter of CPO to Europe. The country exports 3.5 million tonnes CPO to Europe, followed by Malaysia with 1.5 million tonnes. Europe consumes at least 6.3 million tonnes of CPO per year.

Indonesian tuna also faces tariff barrier. EU imposes a high tariff of 24 percent for tuna from Indonesia.
