REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Maritime and Fishery Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti signed an agreement with South Korean Ambassador Cho Tai-Young. The agreement includes program on developing fishery technology.
Pudjiastuti said Indonesia and South Korea committed to prevent fish theft. Korea also agrees not to allow foreign vessels to catch fish within Korea's territory.
Earlier, Pudjiastuti has put moratorium on large vessels and banned foreign vessels to catch fish in Indonesian water. She said that the cooperation with other countries would be in term of technological development and research on fishery.
The cooperation also aims to boost bilateral trade. Indonesia export to Korea only reaches 80 million USD, while fishery export only is 60 million USD.
"Korea is a big market. It has so much potential," she said. Besides fish, Indonesian main export commodities are crustacea and seaweed. Meanwhile, Korea exports clams and shrimps.
