REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEOUL -- The chief of a South Korean-German defense contractor has been indicted on charges of illegally securing classified documents about the country's next-generation submarine project and leaking them to a German defense firm, Seoul prosecutors said Thursday (13/11)
The 49-year-old businessman, surnamed Park, is suspected of leaking documents containing military secrets related to improving the capacity of the Navy's submarines, they said.
Park allegedly received the documents from an executive of another defense contractor, surnamed Kim, via email, prosecutors said, adding that the documents were handed over to another German firm, only identified by its initial C.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said it has indicted and detained Park on charges of violating the country's Military Secrets Protection Act.
Kim is currently standing trial over allegations that between 2008 and June this year he collected military secrets on an estimated 31 national defense advancement projects.
Prosecutors further said Kim divulged them to 25 companies at home and abroad.
