REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NAY PYI TAW -- Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry proposes the leaders to discuss the Rohingya refugee issue during the 2014 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Myanmar, on November 12-13, stated Indonesian Ambassador to Myanmar Ito Sumardi.

Indonesia's President Joko Widodo, who will attend the ASEAN Summit, had been informed about the proposal and is expected to give his response to the proposal before the summit begins, the ambassador noted here on Tuesday.

According to Ito, Indonesia was concerned about the fate of Rohingyas in Myanmar as the latter did not acknowledge Rohingya people as their citizens. This has led to some Rohingyas fleeing their country and using illegal means to enter Australia through Indonesian waters. However, the "pushback policy" for illegal immigrants implemented by Australia had stopped the immigrants from reaching Australia, and they eventually ended up in Indonesia.
